SEO Factoid Friday #1: Do People Actually Go Past The First Page Of Google?
The The Answer May Shock You
Or not, depending on how familiar you are with Google and their users. Before we find out the answer, let’s first dive into why this is important to SEO and Businesses.
Why Is SEO Important?
The magnitude of this statistic can not be overstated. If you are not on the first page of Google, you stand an extremely small chance of a user finding you through search results. Think about it, in your personal browsing, how often do you go past the first page of Google. Odds are it’s not much….
ANSWER: 91.5 PERCENT
Why Is This Number So High?
To answer the question, yes people go past the first page of Google but an extremely low number of only 8.5 percent. Many people have long pondered this question, why do people neglect to move past the first page of Google? In my opinion it has to do with a very simple idea that can’t be measured by statistical metrics and that is perceived trust.
What Is Perceived Trust In A Company?
In today’s online environment people perceive search rankings as a metric of “trust” in a company. The thought process follows “If this company is ranked first on Google, they MUST be the best in the area for this type of business.” This is also coupled with online reviews, especially on a Google business page. If you’re on the 2nd page while your competitor is on the first page of Google and has multiple 5 star reviews for their business. The statistics show that 9 out 10 clicks will go to them. This is detrimental when it comes to bringing in leads or traffic to your website.
