By current accounts, WordPress websites now makeup 26% of all websites on the internet. That’s right, over one quarter of every website online is built on the WordPress CMS. That is a staggering amount in such a crowded space. Considering there are 8+ other wildly popular CMS or website builders, the fact that WordPress managed to take over a quarter of the internet is nothing short of amazing.

How Did WordPress Get Here?

WordPress is an open source CMS platform. This gives WordPress the unique advantage of having millions of people pouring over the platforms code to ensure things are working correctly and efficiently. It also easily allows 3rd parties to develop their own unique layers on top of the basic WordPress platform making it constantly at the forefront of new techniques and technologies.

Are WordPress Developers Here To Stay?

In my professional opinion as a Wordpress developer, I do not see WordPress’ takeover of the market subsiding anytime soon. They have one of the most robust forums for solving problems, constant security updates and killer 3rd party addons giving them plenty of leverage to stick around. Not to mention Google like their websites for SEO and we are all subject to the reign of Google. If you’re thinking about creating a new website or updating an old one, WordPress is the way to go.
